Obituary

Lori Goldschmidt, formerly of Tinton Falls, died December 25, 2014, in Colorado. Lori was born Lorraine Finclaire on February 16, 1929, in Boston, MA. She lived in Winthrop, MA for her first 8 years, and then moved to Brooklyn, NY. Lori attended Hunter College High School, Madison High School, and graduated from Brooklyn College.

She married Karl Goldschmidt in 1952. They were happily married for 52 years. Lori was a musician, music teacher and folk dancer. She was a hiker, bicyclist, and skier. She and Karl traveled all over the country and visited family and friends in Europe during several trips.

Lori is survived by her children, Wendy (Buzz) and Kim (Nancy), and her four grandchildren, Martina, Isabelle, Hanah, and Julien, as well as her cat Hercules. She will be greatly missed by her family and by her many friends in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, the American Recorder Society, the Orff Association, the Monmouth Folk Dancers, and at the Seabrook retirement community where she enjoyed living for 12 years.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood, the UUCMC, or an arts organization.

  1. Lori and Karl laid the foundation for the personality of our folkdance group. When I joined in 1979 the atmosphere was always warm and inclusive with one or both of them always noticing new people coming in and welcoming them. We became a family – someone always having a party or announcing a hike or cross country ski trip or canoe trip and everyone was invited.
    Lori and Karl were a great team and together they helped create the group still going on today.

  2. Thank you, Regina and Bob. Some of my best childhood memories are of dancing at Marine Park. And some of my earliest memories are of Folk Dance House in NYC, where Kim and I both remember painting egg cartons while the adults danced!

  3. I started dancing 1988 then dancing every day Karl and Lori were the most welcoming of anyone I enjoyed they’re couple dances the most I enjoyed her play party games
